Dr. rer. nat. Klaus Denzel erkärt die unterschiedlichen Messmethoden für den Gehalt an OPC (Oligomere Proanthocyanidine) bei Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln. Polyphenolgehalt ist nicht gleich OPC-Gehalt. Auch monomere oder polymere Proanthocyanidine sollten nicht zu den OPCs gerechnet werden.

You receive 720 mg OPC per euro, or 720,000 mcg OPC per euro (320,000 mcg per capsule). Compare this value. We do not count monomers as OPC. There are providers who write, "highest purity per capsule worldwide: 60,000 mcg". However, this is only 60 mg per capsule. "Native OPC premium according to Dr. med. Michalzik" is a tested OPC product. The verified high content of pure OPC in the grape seed extract gives the customer confidence that when it says OPC, it really is OPC.

"OPC 95 - The strongest antioxidant in the world. Perhaps the best OPC in the world" is an advertising slogan used by competitors. They further claim: "Unbeatable price-performance ratio". Let’s take a closer look: The provider refers to OPC 95. This designation is also used by raw material suppliers who promise 95% OPC but, when asked, do not test the OPC content—usually only the polyphenols. This is a major difference! Likewise, for example, "105 mg OPC per capsule" is declared. With 95% OPC, this would be 110.5 mg grape seed extract per capsule. However, the OPC content is not proven by an analysis. With a similar provider from Switzerland, despite a claim of 300 mg OPC, we were only able to find 5 mg in the analysis. It is not stated where the grapes come from. Often, grape seeds grown in China are used. Prices are then extremely low. By comparison: Biotikon has 450 mg grape seed extract per capsule, i.e. four times as much. The OPC content of 320 mg is based on analyses; the analysis is published. The grape seeds come from France.

Conclusion: On closer inspection, it is not always the cheap product that has a better price-performance ratio.

OPC 300 mg: This advertising promise is made by competitors with only 300 mg grape seed extract content. The OPC content would then have to be 100%. Here, grape seed extract is equated with OPC content.

OPC 95%: The designation OPC 95 is used by many manufacturers to describe their OPC quality, but as a rule it indicates a lower OPC quality. Here, it usually does not mean the OPC content, but the analysis value according to "Bate Smith", which provides ratio values and is not suitable for measuring OPC precisely. Or it means the polyphenol content. This means that OPC 95% does not mean that 95% OPC is contained. If you buy OPC, ask for the original certificate of analysis from a German independent analysis institute that shows the OPC content.

OPC 400 mg, 450 mg, 500 mg: Here too, you should ensure that this is not the capsule weight, but how high the actual OPC content is.

OPC analysis, OPC verification

OPC is a substance that is recognized worldwide, but few master the difficult topic of OPC analysis. The OPC certificate of analysis should always state OPC. What matters is the OPC content verified by grape seed extract analyses. Have the OPC content confirmed by a German certificate of analysis from a German laboratory. The location of the OPC provider in Germany is also important, as in some other countries no verifications are required.

OPC according to Dr. med. Michaltik also contains Vitamin C. This contributes to:

OPC Premium by Dr. Michalzik is subject to strict examinations of German supervisory authorities. It is manufactured by use of gentle production technologies without heat or additives in the capsule filling and without the use of processing agents which are not required to be mentioned on the packaging.

No industrially produced silicic acid (silicon dioxide) flow aid.
Biotikon does not use silicon dioxide or silicic acid (SiO₂, known as E551) as a flow aid. The foundation for product testing "Stiftung Warentest" states that those may contain nanoparticles. Silicic acid or silicon dioxide in dietary supplements has been discouraged. Bio Suisse has terminated approval of silica or silicon dioxide. Silica from horsetail is not to be confused with this industrially produced silica.

No Aluminum Contained
A large number of nutritional supplement providers use aluminum as a sealant for cans. During the sealing process an aluminum foil is strongly heated by a high frequency electromagnetic field. We deliberately do not use this method!

Without talcum!

According to the current state of knowledge, there is no sufficiently scientifically substantiated evidence regarding the ORAC value as to what influence it has on physiological processes in the human body and on maintaining its health. However, the ORAC value is an important characteristic of the grape seed extract used, i.e. the raw material for capsule production. What you should pay attention to when purchasing OPC products:

Grape seed extract is not the same as OPC. You must ensure that the manufacturer differentiates between them. Procyanidins can also be present in monomeric form, but these are not OPC. The OPC information should be supported by a German certificate of analysis. Processing in Germany. The grape seeds should ideally come from Western Europe. Our grape seeds come from France. Avoidance of additives in the capsule fill. Short delivery time, thus maintaining quality. OPC capsule material from plant-based raw material (cellulose). Use of suitable analysis methods.

The values measured with the RP-HPLC method are the basis for evaluating the OPC content of our current extract. In contrast to many other OPC products, due to the exceptionally high OPC content, 1 capsule per day is normally sufficient for intake.

OPC and grape seed extract

Grape seed extract can contain many substances. At the beginning, the polyphenol content (secondary plant substances) is important. Simple grape seed flour, i.e. not an extract, is not comparable and in some cases contains only 2 - 3 % polyphenols.

OPC extracts are concentrated up to 40-fold. A subgroup of the polyphenols are proanthocyanidins (procyanidins, PAC). These contain oligomeric procyanidins (proanthocyanidins) and monomeric procyanidins. Unfortunately, the distinction between oligomeric proanthocyanidins and polymeric proanthocyanidins is not clearly defined in science.
